Grade 2 Math Goals

Grade 2 or 2nd grade builds on the important fundamentals from 1st grade, helping students develop stronger number sense and problem-solving skills.

Addition and Subtraction: Mastering addition and subtraction math facts within 20 and solving two-digit addition and subtraction problems with regrouping.

Place Value: Understanding numbers up to 1,000, comparing and ordering.

Multiplication Basics: Introduction to equal groups, arrays, and repeated addition.

Measurement and Time: Measuring length in customary and metric system, telling time to the nearest five minutes on an analog clock, and understanding money (coins and bills).

Geometry: Identifying and describing two dimensional and three dimensional shapes, learning/recognizing symmetry, and understanding basic fractions as parts of a whole (halves, thirds, and fourths).

Word Problems: Use math skills to solve real-life word problems.

Build confidence and fluency with numbers.
