Height vs. time

Throw something straight up or down and watch how long it takes to reach the ground.

–time from start until it hits the ground (gravity 9.81 m/s²)
Elapsed time0.00 s
Height0.00 m
Velocity0.00 m/s

Path to the ground

The up leg is drawn on the left of the path, the down leg on the right. Time marks appear where the object has been.

Thrown at an angle

Add sideways speed and the landing time doesn’t change, as long as both balls start at the same height with the same vertical speed. Change the angled ball’s start height to see what happens when they don’t.
